Privacy Policy

AudioCast Relay is a Google Chrome extension that lets users broadcast (relay) audio from a browser tab to another device (e.g., a phone) in real time using WebRTC technology. This privacy policy explains what data this extension processes, how it is used, and with whom it is shared.

1. Data We Process

a. Tab Audio (Streaming)

When a user clicks "Start Streaming", the extension captures audio from the currently active tab using Chrome's tabCapture API. This audio:

• Is processed locally on the user's device (gain, equalizer, compressor).
• Is sent directly to the receiving device via a peer-to-peer WebRTC connection, not permanently stored or relayed through our servers.
• Our relay server functions only as a signaling server (connecting sender and receiver) and, when needed, as a TURN relay to help the WebRTC connection traverse NAT/firewalls. Audio passing through the TURN relay is not stored (no logging or caching of audio content).
• We do not record, store, or analyze the content of the audio on our servers.

b. Session Recording (PRO Feature — Optional)

If the user enables the "Record" feature, the audio recording is stored locally in the user's browser (as a data URL/blob) and can be downloaded by the user. This recording is not uploaded to our servers.

c. Live Transcription (PRO Feature — Optional)

If enabled, audio transcription is displayed on the receiving device's screen. This process runs through the same streaming connection and is not permanently stored by our servers.

d. User Settings

Audio settings (gain, EQ, compressor, etc.), PRO license status, and session history (start/end time, number of receivers) are stored using chrome.storage.local — stored only on the user's device, and not sent to our servers except when required for a feature that needs server communication (e.g., creating a streaming room).

e. Room ID and Room Password (Optional)

When starting a stream, the extension generates a random "Room ID" and an optional password set by the user. The Room ID and password (if set) are sent to our signaling server to control access to that streaming session. This data is temporary and is automatically deleted when the session ends (rooms are automatically removed after inactivity or after a maximum session duration).

f. PRO License (Gumroad Verification)

If a user enters a PRO license key, that key is sent to the Gumroad License Verification API (api.gumroad.com) to verify the purchase. We only send the license key; we do not send audio data, tab content, or any other personal data to Gumroad.

g. QR Code

To make it easier to connect a phone, the extension generates a QR code from the streaming room's URL using the api.qrserver.com service. Only the room URL (containing the Room ID) is sent to this service — no personal data or audio is included.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect:

• Names, email addresses, or other personal identity information.
• Browsing history.
• The content of web pages the user visits (other than the tab audio explicitly captured by the user themselves).
• Location data.
• Data for advertising or third-party tracking purposes.

3. Sharing Data with Third Parties

We share data with third parties only in the following circumstances:

• Gumroad (api.gumroad.com) — License key sent, for the purpose of verifying a PRO license purchase.
• QR Server (api.qrserver.com) — Streaming room URL sent, for the purpose of generating a QR code image.
• Our TURN/STUN server — Audio stream relayed (not stored), for the purpose of helping establish the WebRTC connection when needed.

We do not sell, rent, or share user data with advertisers or data brokers.

4. Security

• Audio connections use WebRTC, which is end-to-end encrypted (DTLS-SRTP) between sender and receiver.
• Communication with the signaling server uses a secure WebSocket connection.
• Streaming rooms are temporary and are automatically deleted from the server once the session ends or times out.

5. Data Storage and Retention

• Session data (Room ID, password, receiver count) is only stored temporarily in server memory for the duration of the session, and is automatically deleted once the session ends.
• Local settings (audio settings, session history, license status) are stored in the user's chrome.storage.local and can be deleted at any time by removing/uninstalling the extension.

6. User Rights

Since almost all data is stored locally on the user's device, users can delete all extension data at any time by:

• Opening chrome://extensions
• Removing the AudioCast Relay extension

This will delete all data stored via chrome.storage.local.

7. Children's Privacy

This extension is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Changes will be published on this page along with a new "last updated" date.
